Poor children in Ganne, a village 45 km east of Allahabad, one of Uttar Pradesh's biggest commercial centres, are eating SILICA - LACED MUD to quell their hunger. Frail, malnourished children eating moist lumps of mud laced with silica - a raw material for glass sheats and soap - because they are not officially classified as poor and so ineligible for official help.
