Water scarcity in delhi and intentioanal neglect of society tube wells
We read that next war could be on account of sharing of water between nations. Suggestions have been floated like slicing ice berg and towing them to water scacity area.
Delhi is facing acute water shortage and even winter months are no exception.
But strangely some time back a decision had been wrongly taken to keep tube wells of societies in operative.
I refer to our Delhi Officer's House Building Society Ltd Madhuvan New Delhi 110092.
Society handed over potable water supply arrangements to MCD in 1995 and our filtered water supply pump had been operational for couple of years. Mr.Sudhir pump operator was on MCD pay role for operation of tube well.
Now i am informed that tube well along with water filterational equipment has been lying inoperational because DJB has taken some decision not to operate these tube wells.
There could be hundreds of such installations through out delhi. To not to augment water supply arrangements is beyond my thinking.
I fervently appeal that all societies and others having such arrangements must impress upon our elected representatives and DJB AUTHORITIES TO MAKE THESE TUBE WELLS OPERATIONAL and help to reduce water scacity.

Delhi jal nigam water bills
We are able to pay our bills online for power, telephone, internet etc. But Jal Nigam has lagged behind in offering this service. Jal Nigam should take this up on a fast track.

'Inflated' water bills trouble Lajpat Nagar III
Lajpat Nagar III residents are tired of complaining the DJB authorities about getting bills that they claim are inflated. "The billing system is not at all satisfactory. They send bills without taking actual reading. It seems that the bills are sent on assumption basis," complains Harvinder Singh, president, Lajpat Nagar III RWA. "If a resident receives an inflated bill, DJB officials don't rectify the bills and instead instructed the consumer to pay part of the amount," adds Harvinder.PP Singh, a senior citizen and an agitated resident got a bill that he had never expected. He says that he had been charged on the basis of the commercial rate of his flat. "I own the front portion of basement of House number E 21 in Lajpat Nagar III and for which I am using under ground water of submersible pumps. I had already informed DJB office by writing letters to their office," he says.
PP Singh says when DJB authorities had accepted his plea earlier, then why was this issue raised again. "This makes a clear case of harassment to a senior citizen. If bills like this surprise us every time, then what else can we expect from authorities?" he asks.
"Earlier, DJB used to provide its own water meters and then there used to be no problem. But, this system changed and now there are private water meters installed at each house. What we want from the DJB is that they should provide their own water meters and must take charge of their maintenance, so that whatever problem is there with the meter, it must be under the control of DJB." suggests PP Singh.
Angry residents accompanied by RWA members met CM Sheila Dikshit and apprised her about their problems. The CM phoned DJB CEO Ramakant Goswamy, who in process assured to look into the matter personally.
"We held a camp for inflated bills and submitted the same to DJB. We hope now our problems will be solved," hopes Harvinder.

We get what we deserve
Majority of us believe in Karam phal. We are reaping what we have sown in past life. We are constantly evolving by either moving upward or down ward.Good deeds and meditation will lead us up the ladder and vice versa.
What is moksha to many may mean reward of meditation or tapasy in jungle for years to gather. Buddhist and jains lay stress on good actions. Christians lay stress on serving mankind.
Scientists in their own way believe in above theories. Action and reaction will also lead to above.
It is then surprising why we indulge in illegalities of every conceivable type,like grabbing of public spaces, stealing electricity, willfully avoidance of taxes and disobediance of traffic signals.
Perhaps we feel law is to be implemented by weakest persons of society.
We can get away by muscle or money power.
What image we are presenting to world beyond indian borders.

Games In Cost Overrun Log Jam
Five major Commonwealth Games- related projects have overshot their estimated costs, data received under a Right to Information ( RTI) application revealed. They also ran into delays.
The collective cost overrun for the five projects, viz.
Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Dr S. P. Mukherjee Aquatics Complex, Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range is over 100 per cent.
While these construction and renovation projects were originally pegged to cost Rs 1,000 crore, the final bill stood at Rs 2,400 crore. The Central Public Works Department was responsible for all the projects.

No Dip In Retail Food Prices, Mandi Rates Have Come Down But Veggies Remain Expensive
Monthly household budgets had not recovered from last year's onslaught of high food prices when the current year threw in more shockers for Delhiites. From milk to packaged food, not to mention vegetables and fruits, an ordinary diet is no longer very affordable. Wholesale prices seem to have no impact on the retail market as vegetables continue to remain expensive even though mandi prices have come down in the past month.
Sources say that some vegetables had become very expensive in March but their prices have come down now. Ladyfinger, bottlegourd, capsicum and tomato had also seen a price rise since January but by April most vegetables had become much cheaper, at least in the wholesale market. ``There was a problem of inbetween crops, that is at the end of one crop and the beginning of a new one. During this time, whatever little vegetable is available in the market would be sold very expensive. The retail market exploits this situation even more. However, right now the supply is sufficient to meet the current demand,'' said Mukesh Tiwari, chairman, Ghazipur vegetable mandi.
Sources however pointed out that this had made no difference to the retail market. ``The prices in retail market are still very high and a large part of the problem is the cold storage mafia. As far as potatoes go, this is a huge problem right now. The cold storage owners buy directly from the farmers at low rates and sell when the fresh supply starts dwindling. This is true for most vegetables that can be stored, including onions,'' said an official of the Delhi Agriculture Marketing Board.

BSES consumers will soon be able to register their no power supply com- plaints by just calling up the call centre of the company.
Consumers can file com- plaints by just following the voice instructions after dialling the call centre instead of having to wait to speak to a customer service representative. The num- bers to call are 39999707 for BRPL and 39999808 for BYPL and simply enter their 10-digit consumer number printed on your electricity bill. The consumer will also get an instant acknowledgement number.

Construction Overdrive Is Covering Delhi In Dust, Capital Is Counting Cost To Health And Environment
As Delhi steps on the accelerator on preparations for the Commonwealth Games, with just five months to go, the frenzied construction drive has left the city sporting a fine layer of dust. While air pollution has always been a problem in the Capital, the spurt in building activity has led to a spurt in suspended particulate matter (SPM), at some places, even affecting visibility levels. The worst fallout, say experts, is the rise in cases of allergies and asthma due to the dust cover, unlikely to go away anytime soon.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) that monitors air pollution levels in Delhi says that between 2009 and 2010, the levels of SPM and RSPM (respirable SPM) have risen significantly. A fall was seen in February but that, officials say, could be due to a change in weather which brought some rain that month. Besides, the fall has not been uniform across the city four of the seven stations monitored recorded an increase.
``Dust has become a huge problem for the city and we do not see any respite unless a lot of the construction work is over. The levels of the two pollutants (SPM and RSPM) should be peaking right now as the there is some construction taking place almost in each part of the city,'' said S D Makhijani, director, CPCB.
From the Metro construction in various areas, including Dhaula Kuan, to stadia, flyovers and repaving of footpaths in practically all parts of the city, the government is on a construction overdrive. Several areas are also dug up for new dividers, underpasses etc.
