Hike in petro prices on cards

The government may, from next week, find it easier to decontrol petrol and diesel prices as softening global rates would require fuel costs to be raised by just Rs 3.50 a litre for the purpose.

An Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM), headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, is scheduled to meet on June 7 to consider a Kirit Parikh Committee report that calls for the freeing of petrol and diesel prices from governmental control, besides steep hikes in LPG and kerosene rates to cut fuel subsidy.

"Earlier, there were doubts if the government would actually free auto fuel prices - particularly that of diesel — as the hike required to make them at par with international rates was over Rs 6 per litre. But the fall in global oil prices has made the task easier," an Oil Ministry official said.

The EGoM will have to raise the price of petrol by Rs 3.35 per litre and that of diesel by Rs 3.49 a litre to free them from government control.

International crude oil prices have shaved off over $10 per barrel to bring them down to $72-74 a barrel. "The hike needed to free auto fuel prices till last week was Rs 6.07 a litre in petrol and Rs 6.38 a litre in diesel. Raising prices, particularly that of diesel by such an amount in one go, was considered politically difficult," he said.

WHOLESALE PRICES - Inflation crossed into double digits in Feb

India's inflation eased in April even as revised data showed wholesale price infla- tion has already crossed the double-digit mark in February.

The decelerating price data along with moderating factory output may ease the pressure on the central bank to immedi- ately raise policy rates at a time when the impact of the emerging crisis in Europe is yet unknown. However, econo- mists say the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may continue raising interest rates in a slow and calibrated manner.
Provisional data released by the department of industrial policy and promotion showed that in April, inflation stood at 9.59% while data for February was revised to 10.06%.

While inflation for manufac- tured items surprisingly de- clined in April due to a fall in the prices of sugar and edible oil, food inflation rose on the back of higher prices of pulses, milk, condiments and spices.

And Amul did it again.....rest to follow

Yeah in just less than three months, Amul has again raised the price of Milk in Delhi. A rupees per kg means atleast  Rs. 150 to 300 per month for a family of 4 to 6 persons. Prices of Arhar were raised a few days ago by the Govt. Prices of electricity is also expected to move up soon.

Earlier, DOE had dictated that no school can raise the fees of the students without the consent of PTA's. The fees is already up in the schools in one way or other. The school lobby is even against the right to education for 25 % seats for poor students.

The beds for poor patients in the private hospitals are EMPTY. They do not wish to admit the poor patients even though they agreed to do so while buying the Land at lowest prices from government.

Is there any check on the business houses, who are just in the process of making money. Govt. must check the audited financial statements of these companys to see if they are in Profits or REAL losses.

Just think of the position of a small business man or a private employee. The budgets of all these houses are totally upset.

Yes delhites are rich and can pay more for bijli

Yes delhite are rich. CM has correctly said so and this is how every body in MCD, DELHI GOVERNMENT,METRO OR DTC THINKS SO AND HENCE PRICE RISE.As compared to villages or small towns or even comparable cities, being capital of india, employment potential level or the actually employed persons or even income per head is higher.
So is rhe price level and hence higher rate of DEARNESS ALLOWANCE.
This scenerio does not give right to all agencies to raise prices.
The recod of tax collection IS DISMAL.Tax,be it sales tax, property tax we are tax evaders, encourage corruption of allhues.this is all with blessing of public elected or un elected politicians and pliable government and MCD staff and officers.
We do not feel concerned or ashamed that even internationally known limited companies evade rightful dues of MCD ETC.
TOWERS FOR PROVIDING MOBILE PHONE SERVICES ARE MORE WITHOUT APPROVAL than the approved ones. Even in a colony like Maduvan new delhi 110092, MCD has admitted 27 encroachments and MCD IS NOT ACTING BECAUSE OF CLOUT OR FEAR OF OFFICERS OF IAS,POLICE,JUDICIARIES ETC. Even our public passage of madhuvan connecting to NAGRAJ MUNI MARG,serving nirman vihar, preet vihar and madhuvan has been merged by merging it in UNIVERSAL PUBLIC SCHOOL PREET VIHAR.
What is the solution when all parties are in a race to please corrupt and dishonest. Perhaps there is no solution or there is a solution even if a few are ready to face riducle or any type of harrasment.

Arhar price shoots up to Rs 70

The prices of pulses in the Capital have once again gone up significantly.
Mother Dairy and Kendriya Bhandar have decided to increase Arhar dal price from Rs 62 to Rs 70. The decision was taken by the Grain Merchant Association after it got green signal from the Delhi Government on Monday. Sources said that Arhar dal has arrived as bumper crop this year. It has already started arriving in the market. As the Grain Market Association has increased the price, it seems something is fishy.
Earlier, the price of Arhar dal was decreased to Rs 62 from the Rs 66. But again the issue of price hike is likely to create panic among the people as it is going affect their home budget.

New Power Tariff Likely From May

The proposed electricity tariff hike, that were supposed to be implemented from this month, may now be effective from May 1. According to sources, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission is likely to announce the new tariff structure this week after a series of delays. It all depends on DERC whether it will allow a hike in power tariff.

The power regulator was keen on announcing the new tariff in March end but there were several delays in announcing it. According to sources, some discoms kept submitting new information to DERC regarding their financial positions even after the public hearing was concluded. While the regulator refused to take any new information into consideration while deciding tariff revision, the move by the discoms has led to delay in making the announcement.

"There is a lot of speculation going around on whether tariff will be changed or not. Discoms have been campaigning for a hike since long. They argued the cost of everything else from petrol to water in the city has gone up but power tariffs have not been revised for the past four years. They claimed the input costs for providing power have gone up," said DERC officials.

Community Hall Ka Kiraya Ab 50 % Menhga

No Dip In Retail Food Prices, Mandi Rates Have Come Down But Veggies Remain Expensive

Monthly household budgets had not recovered from last year's onslaught of high food prices when the current year threw in more shockers for Delhiites. From milk to packaged food, not to mention vegetables and fruits, an ordinary diet is no longer very affordable. Wholesale prices seem to have no impact on the retail market as vegetables continue to remain expensive even though mandi prices have come down in the past month.
Sources say that some vegetables had become very expensive in March but their prices have come down now. Ladyfinger, bottlegourd, capsicum and tomato had also seen a price rise since January but by April most vegetables had become much cheaper, at least in the wholesale market. ``There was a problem of inbetween crops, that is at the end of one crop and the beginning of a new one. During this time, whatever little vegetable is available in the market would be sold very expensive. The retail market exploits this situation even more. However, right now the supply is sufficient to meet the current demand,'' said Mukesh Tiwari, chairman, Ghazipur vegetable mandi.

Sources however pointed out that this had made no difference to the retail market. ``The prices in retail market are still very high and a large part of the problem is the cold storage mafia. As far as potatoes go, this is a huge problem right now. The cold storage owners buy directly from the farmers at low rates and sell when the fresh supply starts dwindling. This is true for most vegetables that can be stored, including onions,'' said an official of the Delhi Agriculture Marketing Board.

Petrol Pumps To Strike On Friday

More than 400 petrol pumps in the city will observe a protest closure from Thursday midnight to Friday midnight. The Delhi Petrol Dealers Assoc- iation (DPDA) had announced the strike last week.
The strike will be to protest the 20 per cent increase in VAT on diesel that came into effect on April 1. While diesel is cur- rently priced at Rs 38.10 per litre in Delhi, it costs Rs 34.50 per litre in Haryana and Rs 37.42 per litre in UP. "This hike in diesel rates will force most of the sales to the states border- ing the capital," says DPDA president Atul Peshawari.
"We are not left with choice.
Within less than a week of the new prices being implemented, our sales have fallen by 50 to 60 per cent. We're expecting them to down by 80 per cent by next week. This is something that will affect the Government's rev- enue as well," says Peshawari.
So while Delhiites may not be able to buy fuel for one day, their troubles are far from over. A member of DPDA, said if their "demands are not met they are likely to go on an indefinite strike towards the end of the month.
He says, "We have been asking the Delhi government to reduce the price difference between diesel rates in Delhi and Har- yana since 2008, but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The Haryana government, on the other hand, has been bringing down prices." He adds, "While we'll ensure that all private pumps are shut, we will also ensure that company pumps are also not functional."

From April 1, pay more for driving on toll roads

NEW DELHI: High inflation rate is set to make your travel expensive on tolled highways from April 1. As per revised toll notifications issued by NHAI for about two dozen sections of national highways, the increase in toll rate per km for the year 2010-11 is approximately double than the average increase in the past two years.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which revised toll rates for 23 NH stretches across the country on Tuesday, fixed the per km user fee for cars at 76 paise, five paise more than that last year.

Interestingly, a comparison of the increase in toll fee shows that between 2007-08 and 2009-10 the user charge went up from 65 paise to 71 paise.

"But this year the revised toll fee is higher due to steep increase in the wholesale price index (WPI). The WPI impacted an increase of toll by 7%, which is significant," said an NHAI official.

Your Cell Bill Likely To Rise By 2% Soon

Telecom Ministry Proposes Cess For Telecom Equipment Industry
INDIA'S 560-million cellphone users will have to pay an extra 2% of their bill amount as R&D cess to boost the telecom equipment industry if the government accepts a communications ministry proposal. Mobile phone users currently pay 12% service tax and 2% education cess on their bills.

The telecom department first floated this proposal in 2006, but did not press for implementation. It now wants to revive this option of imposing an R&D cess, an internal department note said. This is part of a 14-point strategy that the Department of Telecom (DoT) is advocating to transform India to a telecom manufacturing hub.
"It is estimated that the requirement of telecom equipment would be over Rs 5,00,000 crore till 2015," the department's internal note said, adding, "However, despite the growth of market many folds, share of indigenous equipment has fallen down from 74% on 2003-04 to 30% in 2008-09."
Some of the 14-point turnaround strategies have been implemented over the last few months. For instance, last week, the government issued a directive mandating foreign gearmakers to manufacture core telecom equipment locally or mandatorily transfer technology to Indian manufacturers within a three-year period.

Sheila Makes You Pay For The Games

Her government unleashes a tax whammy on Delhiites already reeling under rising prices
DELHI chief minister Sheila Dikshit has a plan to fund the beleaguered 2010 Commonwealth Games in the Capital -- she is going to make you pay for it.
" I would appeal to the residents ( of Delhi) to understand our position," Dikshit told PTI soon after finance minister A. K. Walia's budget speech on Monday which raised taxes on various goods and services in the city- state. " We need money for the Commonwealth Games. I am sure people will extend their cooperation to the government." She then said the budget was " development- oriented" and that it would " further increase economic activity in the city". As a result of Dikshit's tax raid on the common man, essential commodities such as diesel, domestic cooking gas, tea, coffee, ghee, aerated drinks, cutlery, kitchen utensils and CNG fuel for public transport will be dearer after April 1.
If that were not enough, the Delhi state budget has increased taxes on luxury products such as expensive watches, mobile phones priced above Rs 10,000, pens costing more than Rs 1,000, and readymade garments priced at Rs 5,000 and above. This is a direct result of an increase of 7.5 per cent in the value- added tax for all these products.
Walia said Central government funding for the Commonwealth Games was much less than what the state had hoped to receive, therefore raising taxes was inevitable. In the previous fiscal, the government had allocated Rs 2,105 crore for Gamesrelated projects. The finance minister said Delhi state has already spent Rs 15,000 crore on improving infrastructure ahead of the event that will be held this October.
