Road freight zoom by up to 8 pct on diesel price hike

It is reported that truck rentals have surged 6% to 8% while retail freight is up by 12% to 15% after a hike in diesel prices by INR 2.58 per liter ex Delhi and INR 3 per liter ex Mumbai & Chennai was announced in the Budget proposal last week.

For a nine-tonne payload between Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi, rentals rose to INR 46,000 per trip as on March 3 from INR 42700 per trip as on February 4 a rise of 7.73%for Delhi-Nagpur-Delhi INR 43,400 from INR 40,200, a rise of 7.96% for Delhi to Kolkata to Delhi INR 44,800 from INR 41,500, a rise of 7.95%, Delhi to Guwahati-Delhi INR 82,000 from INR 77,200 a rise of 6.22%.

According to a compilation made by the Indian Foundation of Transport Research and Training, a non government organization associated with the transport sector, the rise of 6% to 8% in truck rentals is at a higher side compared with the weighted impact of the diesel hike of 3.5% to 4.5%.

Mr SP Singh senior fellow and coordination of the foundation, said that “This disproportionate and concerted hike across the country has come against the backdrop of the booming transport freight market, as manufacturing and import-export trade is growing at double digits and it has improved the cargo offering by 10% to 12% in last four to five months.”

Mr Singh further added that truck rentals had already gone up cumulatively by 14% to 16% during October 2009-January 2010 even without the rise in diesel price. He added that “This hike was a cushion to absorb the diesel price rise of INR 2.58 per liter ex Delhi and INR 3 per liter ex Mumbai and Chennai. However, the market forces are in favour of the truck transport industry due to oversupply of cargo and the manufacturing sector willing to pay higher freight due to increased prices of their products.”

Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) to broadcast info on corrupt and criminal politicians contesting civic polls.

Those contesting the Bangalore civic polls, beware! The Resident Welfare Associations across the city have (RWA) has decided to scrutinise all candidates.

RWAs that are active than ever in polls this time have evolved their own strategies to elect a better council.

Besides exploring an option to contest polls, residents will play watchdog as they will dig out and circulate minute details pertaining to each contestant in fray in their respective residential areas, for the first time.

One goal

"It's not going to be easy for poll aspirants this time," said S Viswanath, member, Spartacus residents association, Jaynagar. "We are gearing up to ensure that polls this time will make a difference at least in wards, where RWAs are active."

With the election notification coming out on Monday, more than hundred resident welfare associations, who had earlier restricted themselves to voting, have pulled their socks for other roles too. Residents welfare associations, who met on Sunday after the State Election Commission's say on polls, have set their agenda for BBMP polls scheduled on March 28.

09-03-10 4 pm to 5 pm & 5:30 to 6 pm

The BSES Customer Care Centres are of no use, hours after making the complaint they don’t have any status about the area. The officers of BYPL like DGM(O&M), Asst VP(O&M), VP(O&M) and BYPL CEO office are personally connected many times about the problem /situation but of no help from them also.

The public/ RWA is never ever informed of any power cut or load shedding in Advance by way of Press releases or letter or mail or by phone, so that they may get mentally prepared for the trouble/ nuisance by Discom.
This is the sample of maintenance and system up gradation /modernization by BSES and for all these types of services, BSES is asking for Tariff Revision?

Yours sincerely

Heavy commercial traffic in B Block, Priyadarshini vihar

The residents of B-Block of Priyadarshini Vihar have been suffering from a heavy commercial traffic on a colony's inner lanes. This lane between Gate No.B-1 and B-2 is, although 30' wide, the working space is hardly 20', and is located just parallel to a newly constructed over 10 ft. wide 4-lane main highway on the Khureji nallah, called dis-used canal.
When this road was not constructed, the politicians and the bureaucrats had given assurances that once the road was ready, the woes of our residents would be over. This road is functional for over two years now, and the RWA and the residents have met with the area MLA, who is also a senior minister in the Delhi Government; the area Councillor, and the Traffic Police right up to the Joint Commissioner level, a number of times, but the problems of the residents remain unresolved. The traffic is so much used to using this lane as a convenient short-cut to and from their destinations, that they start fighting with the residents who try to stop them. Traffic james on this hardly 100 meter long lane, is common. High speed and honking by vehicles prohibit the children and the elderly people to even come out of their own houses.

The ACP (Traffic) has been requested several times to provide two constables for peak hours to divert the traffic on to the dis-used canal road, particularly the tractor-trolleys, mini trucks, mini buses, buffalo-driven buggies and other commercial vehicles, during peak hours. No one listens and the residents living on that lane, including over 20 senior citizens, continue to suffer this trauma.

Delhi Jal Board now tapping foreign firms for water meters

NEW DELHI: Unable to procure water meters from the domestic market, the Delhi Jal Board is now tapping foreign companies for supplying the measuring device. And if the negotiations under way are successful, consumers in the city could soon boast of water meters made in Europe.
The Jal Board has been enforcing the use of meters to check its spiralling financial losses. In the absence of functional meters most domestic connections were being billed at a flat rate of 20 kilolitres per month.
“The old practice resulted in severe losses and the Jal Board decided to press for the mandatory use of water meters,” said a senior official.
The Jal Board and consumers are, however, in a fix since the companies that manufacture the meters are unable to cope with the heavy demand. The deadline for installation of new meters has been extended twice over from December 31 in 2009 to January 31 and now to March 31.
