Seasonal flu causes more mortality than Swine Flu

There is no need to panic but prevention is essential

Respiratory hygiene can go a long way in preventing the disease from spreading.

With the second Swine Flu death being reported in the Capital, panic has grappled the residents of the city. Given this scenario, awareness generation is crucial. People must be made aware of the fact that there is no increased mortality in the case of Swine Flu patients as compared to normal flu cases. In fact, season flu has a death rate that is 10 times higher than that due to Swine Flu. Thus, if Swine flu kills one in 10 lakh people every year, one in 1 lakh die due to seasonal flu.

Swine Flu is akin to the ordinary flu, and has symptoms like fever, coryza (runny nose), cough, sore throat, bodyache, headache and malaise. Some patients may also have other symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and rash on the body. These symptoms last for 1-2 weeks. If a patient reports severe breathlessness and blood on coughing, he or she should immediately be taken to a hospital for tests and admission. When a patient has temperature along with coryza and breathlessness, he or she should be attended to by a doctor and admitted to a hospital for customized medical assistance. These might be the warning signs of severe influenza flu (swine or otherwise).

Speaking on the issue, Padma Shri Awardees Dr A Marthanda Pillai National President Indian Medical Association and Dr K K Agarwal  said, “To safeguard oneself, the foremost precaution that susceptible individuals can take is to get vaccinated. Influenza vaccines can prevent flu caused by human strains, and are recommended in children above 6 months of age, people older than 50 years, patients with pulmonary, cardiovascular, renal, hepatic, neurologic, hematologic disorders and diabetes mellitus; pregnant females and health care providers.”

Cough and respiratory hygiene can prevent Swine Flu. Some basic steps include:

• Do not cough in the hands or handkerchief; cough on the sleeves of the shirt or in a disposable tissue.

• Cover coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues and wash hands if they get soiled with respiratory secretions

• Wash hands frequently with soap and water to wash away the germs.

• Avoid touching face (mouth and nose) with your hands.

• Avoid touching or maintaining close proximity to any person who is coughing or is sneezing.

• Maintain a distance of 3-6 feet from a person who is coughing or sneezing.

• Avoid shaking hands with individuals during the flu season.

• Patients who have symptoms should stay indoors.

• Avoid going to office/schools or in crowded locations till the time their symptoms subside.

Many people do not know that most Swine Flu patients can be managed on an outpatient basis and do not require hospitalization.

Chemoprophylaxis is only recommended for symptomatic patients at the discretion of a doctor. These include pregnant women and those suffering from concomitant illnesses (like diabetes, heart or respiratory illnesses or end-organ failures). Antiviral medications are the first-line of treatment and most cases respond to Oseltamivir.

RWAs : Halla Bol on Dengu : AAJTAK : B S Vohra

Dengue breaks 19 year old record in Delhi, 10683 patients admitted

In the year 1996, there were 10,252 known cases of Dengu in Delhi, and after 19 years, till date, Delhi has touched a new peak of 10,683 cases so far.

RWAs, you must come forward & contact your local councillor for arranging immediate Fogging of the area. Moreover, check that there is no deposit of water, i.e. clean water, in any area in your locality.

I remember, we had started a drive last year and we could easily locate the Dengu larva on the Centre tables of many houses, in the Bamboo plants.

Must come forward as we can no more depend upon the Govt agencies. Please feel free to share pics of Fogging or water deposits with us.

Thanks

Wastage of water by residents

I need your support & guidance for sending the attached mail to concerned officer responsible for taking corrective measures for arresting the flow of good and waste water from houses to back lanes, streets and/or drains where they create filth, breed mosquito and result in malaria, Dengue, chikangunia etc.

This letter contains current photographs of water getting wasted, etc

We have sent good number of photographs to MCD also in the last three years containing pictures of water falling from upper floors, accumulated water in lanes, growth of vegetation in lanes, removal of vegetation got done by residents with and without support from MCD, etc.

The attached letter is self explanatory in nature.

Kindly direct the letter to officer concerned and ask for solution to this problem from residents who might Have faced similar situation.

Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Talvar’ – to enlighten us with reality !

TALVAR is based on the real time story of Aarushi Talwar, who was murdered at her home in 2008 with her throat slit while the body of the servant was found on the rooftop with similar wounds. The news had baffled everyone with a strange thought that how the parents could kill their 14 years old daughter. But the investigating agencies had termed the murder as the Honor Killing stating that the parents of Aarushi Talwar i.e. Dr Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar had seen her in the compromising position with the servant.

Talvar is directed by Meghna Gulzar who is the daughter of Rakhee & Gulzar saab. She has done her best in depicting that how the law enforcing agencies as well the investigating agencies operate in our country.

The story is written by Vishal Bharadwaj who has referred the term TALVAR for the justice which slices through the darkness to enlighten us with reality, though delayed.

While viewing the special screening of the movie we were just speechless. The visuals were so catchy, that we could not even blink our eyes. It portrayed different versions of investigation, i.e. by local police, by investigating team A and by investigating team B.

It clearly showed the impact of bureaucracy on the investigating agencies that can turn the investigation into any direction they prefer. It showed how the local police had failed to do its job by not even referring to the forensic. It showed how Team A had almost cracked the case, but the retirement of the chief, changed everything. It also portrayed that how the new chief intervened to alter the course of direction.

Irrfan Khan plays the role of an investigating officer in the Team One, while Neeraj Kabi and Konkona portray the roles of Aarushi's parents and it also stars Tabu in a special appearance. It is being released on the 2nd October and we are sure that you will #TalvarThisFriday.
