Waterlogging out, harvesting in

Residents of Greater Kailash-I seem to have found a novel way to battle the persistent problem of water-logging in the area.

The Resident’s Welfare Association (RWA) of the R-Block in Greater Kailash (GK) -I is building rain water harvesting tanks at places where water logging is a big problem.

“We are constructing plants where water logging is common. This way, water will not stay on the roads and will get accumulated in the tanks,” said U.C. Mathur, secretary of the RWA.The water will get filtered once in the tanks and will then be released into the ground.

“We are not using the water for consumption. It will be released into the soil,” said Mathur. The colony already has two water harvesting tanks, one of which has addressed the problem of water logging. The third one is under construction and will be functional by May-end.

A hope atleast : Delhi to have task force to check water logging.

We will be thankful to Delhi Government for forming any such task force, which can check the water logging in various parts of Delhi. The first task can be the Krishna nagar, the first DLF Colony, which  is very much prone to water logging. Even on the normal rain we get knee deep water on roads & in case of heavy down pour, we can see the Floating beds, Sofa sets and other house hold items in various houses, which has become a routine for the last over 25 years.

While the other localities of Delhi, may think of Pakoras on viewing the clouds in the sky, the residents of Krishna nagar, start fearing the nightmare of water logging instead. Atleast a hope for the residents of Delhi that any such task force is being formed in Delhi, which will check the water logging.

Delhi To Have Task Force To Check Water-Logging

The Delhi government on Friday formed a high- level task force, led by to keep a check on water-logging.

The task force, led by Delhi chief secretary Rakesh Mehta, would ensure that all drains are cleaned before the onset of monsoon and that there is prop- er machinery available to clear water logging-prone areas in the shortest possible time.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Delhi chief minister and attended by all stakeholders, including MCD, NDMC, PWD, flood and irrigation department, officers of the revenue department and other related departments, a senior Delhi government offi- cial said.

To check proper cleaning of drains, a team of 27 sub-divi- sional magistrates from nine districts of Delhi will act as third party inspectors. The team will ensure that all 1,550 drains of the city are properly de-silted before the monsoon.

The PWD, MCD and the NDMC also identified water logging-prone points on roads in their jurisdiction and set up pumping stations to clear stag- nated water immediately.
