Who will allow, a would be disastrous, landfill site, in the neighbourhood, while Authorities have NO concrete plan, to deal with the garbage, and to implement waste management seriously ?

We dont want alternate sites any more, instead we want a permanant solution now.

ITS AN EMERGENCY AND We have to begin immediately from our home and this message must reach to one n all, be the residents, be the authorities.

Delhi Govt and Municipal corporations, must announce TODAY ITSELF that no more garbage will be picked and dumped at dhalaos, if its not segregated.

Come on, it's the time now to START A WAR AGAINST GARBAGE, it's the time now to START ACTION.

Re : A vicious circle of Disaster

Dear Mr. Vohra ji,

Your piece is thought provoking but at the same time shocking! Don't you think that we always plan (unknowingly) for disaster now and in future too! There is no long term plan, except on paper, not in practice and implementation and wise-people's advice, like you, is not taken for consideration! The bureaucrats and the politicians in power always think that they are wiser than aam aadmi and they give a rosy picture, which is given wide publicity at the cost of people and then forgotten for lack of resources, will power and man power, which are their normal excuses for non-implementation!! This is the usual drill which goes on and on and forever and any new incomer announces a 'grand plan' in public which fades away in thin air with the passage of time and people also forget, as the latter's memory is always short!!  I have seen all this and more during my life time in Delhi over 5 decades and will continue to remain the same unaltered making people continue to suffer and suffocate with pollution, water and electricity problems, added civic menace throughout the year!! I strongly and firmly of the opinion that if they (administrators, including politicians at the helm of affairs) wish to do something good for the people they could do it unhampered but 'chalta hai' attitude creeps in and the their subordinates do not carry out their wishes, as there is no punishment that could be inflicted upon them, as otherwise, they will threaten to go on strike, which is their biggest tool in their hand, encouraged by outsiders who are also politicians to enjoy the menace and criticise the administration and politicians in power through so media who is always ready to give wide publicity through the visual media unendingly and repeatedly ad nauseum!!! They pay scant attention to Court's orders as the miscreants have always a higher court to appeal and drag the cases for decades, which we have seen in day to day life.

Of course, some times the Courts also without realising the ground reality give orders which go against the wishes and aspirations of larger number of people, but a very few get the benefit out of them! I can quote with authority at my command that recently the Delhi High Court had given orders, as I understand, to remove all 'speed breakers' which had been provided on the inner roads etc. by the Societies at enormous cost to safeguard the people residing in the colonies, where serious accidents had happened due to their absence, but at one stroke of the High Court's order on a PIL by some one (individual)'s petition to remove all the speed breakers installed, which were all done with the tacit approval and knowledge of the Police authorities but removed by the EDMC, without any fore-warning and realising any consequences which would occur dut to their absence! The authorities in power do damage quickly but don't do anything for the safety and security of aam aadmi who are facing the problem on a day to day basis! This is the highhandedness of the authorities concerned for all to see!

Yet an another example, I quote, again with all powers in my command, that we had built a huge overhead  water tank in concrete a few decades back when the Colony came into existence at the behest of the authorities concerned to supply water to Anand Vihar and its neighbouring colonies as well but became disused with the flow of Ganga water in East Delhi and still remains as such with cracks which have developed endangering the life and property of neighbours at any point of time, as and when it collapses on fine morning/night time! This huge  over head water tank remains unused for the last over four decades and it may crack further and fall anytime! This has been brought to the notice of the authorities (DJB) concerned several times and even cautioning them that if any calamity takes place they would be held wholly and solely responsible for any catastrophe but they are still in slumber but once the unfortunate thing happens, all will rush in and throw blame on each other at a huge cost to the residents over here!!

Still an outstanding example, I wish to quote herein. The EDMC are reported to be short of funds. If so why they have not yet decided about the levy of property tax so far! They could have by now collected a huge amount from all owners and reaped the interest too on the amount collected but alas, this is yet to be decided!

The EDMC have taken no action so far to desilt the storm water drains which are overflowing in the colony, as was done in the past before the onset of monsoon and did not do any fogging despite repeated pleas and requests by the RWA!

The green-lung in the shape of parks for the benefit of residents are not maintainted at all while the mallies are receiving their salaries on time! Who are to blame? Are we?

With deep regards,
TK Balu/Anand Vihar

A vicious circle of Disaster management !

A vicious circle - Disaster occurs - People wake up - People shout - Leaders awake - Leaders come forward - People expect action - Leaders promise - Leaders assure - People go back - People sleep - Leaders go back - Leaders sleep - Leaders vanish - Everyone waits for the next disaster - and the vicious circle of disaster management continues & keeps on rotating.

It's going on since last many, many years. One accident leads to another, one disaster leads to another, leaders come, grow and go, things remain same. Nothing changes. Huge promises to fool the public, and public prefers to be fooled by the leaders. Nothing constructive ever happens to resolve the issues.

Yamuna will be cleaned. WhenTraffic jams will go. How ? Pollution will come down. When ? Encroachment will be removed. How ? Disaster management will be strengthened. When ? Just huge promises year after year, but without any answers.

Ghazipur to Bhalaswa, Bhalaswa to Rani khera / Ghonda, yet another environmentally disastrous landfill sites into making. Though Rani Khera was selected two years ago, no one ever planned to clean the SMOKING MOUNTAINS of garbage at two prime spots, causing very serious environmental issues.

Don't you think that they must come forward with constructive decisions and a very serious long term planning, for waste management, disaster management, pollution, encroachment, traffic jam, potholes, cave ins, water logging, parking etc., and so on.

But the problem is, every such issue just induces the leaders to impose yet another cess or tax for more collections. It's been heard, that hefty parking charges are to be imposed for parking your own car, in front of your own home. Up to 28% GST on almost everything in the market, and they have levied 3.75% additional cess on the Electricity bills, in the name of the pension. Strange & Shocking.

It happened earlier at Ethiopia, China, Srilanka, but seems no lessons learnt from such instances and the concerned authorities just kept on waiting for it to happen at ghazipur in Delhi. Sad n shocking. We elect them to work for the city and they create these man made disasters that trap innocent persons towards death.

Mr Dewani just commented on my FB, that why dont they make manure out of it. But the problem is, they dont have the will to do anything, so they dont find the way.

GDP growth rate down to 5.7% in April-June, demonetisation pain lingers

The growth rate is the slowest pace at which the economy has expanded in three years, underlining the disruption caused by the roll out of the goods and services tax even as the economy struggles to recover from a shock demonetisation.

A customer hands over cash to a merchant at a wholesale trading shop in Bengaluru. Indian shares ended higher on August 31, pulling back from losses earlier in the session, as investors awaited GDP data for the April-June quarter.

India’s economy unexpectedly slowed to a three-year low in the April-June quarter, signalling that business was still hurting from last year’s shock cash squeeze as well as disruptions ahead of the rollout of a new tax regime.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 5.7% in the last quarter, undershooting market expectations, compared to 6.1% in January-March period. The drop was even sharper when compared to the like-quarter a year ago when GDP expanded at 7.9%, official data released on Thursday showed.

The slowdown suggested the underlying momentum in the economy was still weak, posing a challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government that must produce masses of jobs to absorb a million people entering the workforce every month.

“Certainly a matter of concern that first quarter GDP has come down to 5.7% and it’s obvious therefore that it throws up challenge for the economy,” Finance minister Arun Jaitley said.

The economy lost steam primarily because of a sharp fall in mining, manufacturing and construction sectors, where demand remained muted even nine months after the government decided to scrap about 86% of cash in circulation to fight corruption and counterfeiting.

A rush to clear large inventories ahead of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rollout also affected manufacturing, Jaitley said, adding that the drawn-down in stocks is complete so the dip in the sector could be bottoming out. The April-June data, however, does not take into account the impact of the new tax regime launched on July 1.

While manufacturing and construction grew at just 1.2% and 2% respectively, mining output saw a 0.7% contraction year-on-year. This offset relatively robust expansion in services and a moderate growth in farm output.

“One of our worst experiences in India turned (out) to (be) one of our best and we learnt a lot from you,” read the thank you postcard, written by Arie and Sophie Boleswaski and their three daughters to Dadar Gurudwara.

The French tourist family stuck in Mumbai floods on Tuesday went to three hotels in Dadar looking for a safe place before being directed to the Gurudwara. “We were lost in the rain, and your Gurudwara appeared like a lighthouse in the dark. Not only you provided us with a shelter, but you welcomed us with extreme kindness,” said Boleswaskis in the thank you note.

The family was offered dal khichadi for dinner and a small room by the Gurudwara officials as they were concerned about their safety.

The note. (HT)
“They were one of 750 victims of Mumbai floods who came to the Gurudwara in need of shelter and food. Considering their concerns and the fact that they are our guests, we ensured they are not inconvenienced in any way,” said Kulwant Singh, vice-president of Dadar Singh Sabha.

Singh said the family was extremely worried after the transportation system of the city collapsed and couldn’t find a safe place to spend the night. “They went about one hotel to another, but couldn’t find a suitable place. That’s when one of the hotel owners, directed them towards us,” said Manpreet Singh, one of the volunteers.

While the family refused any other special arrangement and chose to sleep on floor after seeing the condition of their fellow victims of the deluge, in the morning they said it was the best night of their life, Kulwant said.

As the family returned to their home town Paris, France, on Wednesday morning after the roads were cleared and transportation was resumed, but not without donating towards the cause of public welfare.

“Please accept this small contribution to everything you do for the souls in need. If you happen to come to Paris, please let us know,” said Arie and Sophie Boleswaski in the postcard.
