RWA duties & powers

What is the status of DDA Agencies functioning as RWAs as they are neither registered in society act ,nor DDA is taking care of running of these bodies as they have been handed over to MCD for more than a decade now.

Should it not be mandatary for RWAs to be registered in society act?

what action should be taken in cases where RWA office bearers have themselves encroached on public land.?

RWA to crack whip on encroachments

NEW DELHI: In a bid to streamline traffic at Lajpat Nagar, Defence Colony and Jangpura, the Delhi High Court has made MCD and traffic police officials accountable to the local RWA for removing encroachments from roads.

"The president and secretary of the associations shall also be called for the meetings held between MCD and Delhi Police officers. These meetings should be held at least once a month under intimation to the office bearers," the HC specified in its order.

The court gave the instructions after realizing that little progress has been made in streamlining traffic despite its intervention. The court made it clear that on receiving complaints by the residents of the area through their respective RWAs, the officers must respond immediately and take action as per law.

According to the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act and the Delhi Police Act, both authorities can respectively sieze, seal or penalize shops found to be encroaching on public land. HC was hearing a batch of petitions filed by Defence Colony Flyover Complex Welfare Association, the Jangpura RWA and the Lajpat Nagar RWA.

Agitated with the rising prices of electricity, the residents of East Delhi came together under Bijli Andolan to fight against it. The andolan has been started under the leadership of Vijay Goel, former DUSU president and BJP leader. "The Bijli Andolan is a way to raise voice against the rising injustice. We should stand united and force the government to reduce prices of electricity," said Geeta Mehra, a resident present in andolan.

"I congratulate the team of East Delhi RWAs Joint Front, for holding the first meeting of Bijli Andolan successfully. For any welfare organisation, citizens' interest should be first and foremost," said Ranju Minhas, founder-cum-executive director at Shield-Citizen's Initiative (NGO) and a social worker.

"Price rise has troubled us a lot and we may get some respite through this andolan. The authorities should listen to our demands and do something to solve our problems," said Deepak Tiwari, another resident.
