Get Ready For A 30% Hike In Your Electricity Bill

If you think your power bills are too high, here's some bad news: Get set to pay even more. Power regulator Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has paved the way for a hike by sending fresh advice to the Delhi government which states that the current tariff was not ``cost-reflective'' and power companies were suffering under-recoveries of 30% to 50%.

 

 

This comes less than six months after then-chairman of DERC, Berjinder Singh, had advised the government that discoms were misrepresenting their financial state. In May, the government had intervened to stop a tariff announcement by DERC which is rumoured to have recommended a reduction in power rates. Singh retired in September.

Within 24 hours of receiving the regulator's latest advice, the Sheila Dikshit government responded by not just accepting it but saying it validates concerns raised by the government on the discom's financial conditions. The government had invited the high court's ire for meddling in tariff fixation policies earlier this year and halting the May tariff announcement.

The new advice also spells victory for the city's three power discoms BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna and NDPL who have been fighting for higher tariff for a long time.

Thanks I getting your Bhagiadari mail regularly. The current one I had today about the hike in petrol prices. This is one of the highest hike in cost of Petrol and we have to spend more in almost many commodities of daily use because hike in gasoline do effect in price rise. In one hand corruption is deadly cancer and uncontrollable. Government is totally failed being the responsible for this but irresponsible in performance.

Can you imagine a vegetarian thali lunch for Rs.12.50 or a katori (small bowl) of dal at Rs.1.50, and chapatis for a rupee each at a time when the prices of essential commodities are touching the sky?

 

Yes it is possible, even if food is getting out of the reach of the poor in the country. Welcome to the Parliament House canteen - where delectable dishes will never act pricey.

 

A series of catering units run by Indian Railways at Parliament House, including at the library and the annexe building, serve food at rates which are a good decade old but are hard to digest for a newcomer. MPs, who are seen shouting at each other and castigating the government over the rising food prices, definitely relish the cheap canteen food. But, mind you, the facility is not for them only. Parliament staff, low-paid security personnel and accredited journalists too enjoy the delicacies at rates which an ordinary citizen outside cannot even think of  Dal, considered to be the poor man's food in India and which is now getting too expensive to even fit his bowl, costs just Rs.1.50 for a katori. Low rates make the desserts sweeter. A katori of kheer at Rs.5.50 will never taste bitter. So will a small fruit cake at Rs.9.50 and a helping of fruit salad at Rs.7. If you want to have soup, enjoy a bowl full at Rs.5.50

Colony Gates

Dear Sir,

 

It is high time that we should once for all decide the matter relating to provision of colony gates in the present alarming situation of safety and security of residents of Delhi. There are three type of gates - gates on the service lanes at the back of the residents houses; inner roads of the colony and the roads in the colony leading to main roads or exposed to main roads from the residents/visitors etc. could enter the colony. While the roads of the colony exposed to main roads are normally not less than 45 ft. the inner roads vary from 30 to 45 ft. while the service lanes are of 15 ft. all in width. In our colony, all the foresaid roads exist. Besides there is one 80 ft. road running through the colony connecting other neighbourhood colonies.

 

MCD have of course prescribed guidelines for provision of internal gates and they should also consider and revise where the situation demands the size of the gates depending on the lay-out plan approved by them or DDA. The conditions prescribed by them should not be considered as sacrosanct but should be flexible depending the lay-out plan of the colony. If the Police authorities cannot ensure safety and security of residents within their capacity, the RWAs have per force to make necessary arrangements which they think is in the best interest of the people residing in the colony and no powers on the earth should pose impediments unless the such authorities concerned take the sole and whole responsibility of the safety and security of the residents of the colony and should not pass on the buck to other authorities/agencies etc.

 

Of late it is found that the MCD instead of doing any 'productive' work and ensure that what is required to be done by them in maintenance of the colony etc. harrass the residents and RWAs in such vital things to be done. They are unable to punish people who encroach upon public land, demolish unauthorised buildings and maintain roads and lanes in a good condition, ensure sanitary conditions of the colony and markets inside the colony but on the contrary pose themselves as the custodian of the entire area and create misery and problems etc. to the law-abiding citizens! Can't we stop this with all the force at our command?!  Let the joint front take action against this and let's join to solve the problems!

Jangpura residents seek HC help to clear encroachments

NEW DELHI: Buoyed by the Delhi High Court backed crackdown on traders encroaching public space in Defence Colony area, residents of nearby Jungpura Extension have sought similar relief from HC.

Justice G S Sistani on Tuesday allowed Jungpura RWA to become a party to the original contempt plea he is hearing, filed by the Defence Colony Flyover Association and asked the MCD along with DCP traffic to consider the complaint of the RWA.

In its petition seeking to become a party to the case, the Jungpura residents alleged that despite repeated representations to the police and other civic agencies like DDA/MCD, illegal parking of trucks, taxis and encroachment by shops continues. As per the petition, the main culprit causing traffic congestion in the locality is one 'Rama Tent House' whose business activities throughout the day and also in night trouble residents.

"The association is concerned with the smooth flow of traffic and wants to ensure that footpath for pedestrians around roads here remains available," the RWA says, informing HC that widespread encroachment of public spaces by shopkeepers, traders has led to traffic snarls.

Sahyog Welfare Association, West Patel Nagar : colony gates

Dear Mr. Vohra,

This is Mahesh Kumar Sharma, President, Sahyog Welfare Association, West Patel Nagar. Wanted to discuss an issue with you regarding colony gates. For the last 1yr MCD has demolished two of our colony gates. As per the standing order of MCD, the width of the gates should not be less than 5mts, while our gates are 4.5 mts in size, and the width of the street is 4.5mts as per the master plan.

We have got the stay order for rest six gates in the colony. Now we have got permission from the Joint director Traffic Police, local area ACP, and Fire brigade authorities. But still according to the MSD standing order our hands are tied and we cant go ahead with the installation of the gates due to size constraints. Need your guidance on the issue, as the size of the street according to the master plan is 4.5mts then how can we increase it to 5 mts? And these are all exit gates, and dont harm any traffic movement in any way.Kindly guide as to what should be our plan of action and who all we should approach in order to solve the issue.

Our responsibilities and responses of administration

In one post MR.Balu has lamented about non responsive culture of present day ADMINISTRATORS.
There cannot be a better example than the action or response of authorities on several issues raised through this blog. To name a few, we had expressed concern regarding loss of revenue because mobile phone services towers have been allowed to exist without any permission or collection of charges from service providers.
The second issue is about NON COLLECTION OF PROPERTY TAX FROM ALL OVER DELHI.
The shops are functiong even in area like PREET VIHAR AND MADHUVAN where one shop haas been divided to create three shops. And even parking area just near PREET VIHAR(NOW MADHUVAN) POLICE STATION HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO BE PARKING PLACE FOR BUSES AND TEMPOS. It is nobody's headache whether they pay monthly charges to MCD OR NOT.
These issues have been quoted by way of examples only.
I remember, the instructions of departments to acknowledge each and every communication.
But what is happening is known to all of us.
Now question is....WHAT OUR EAST DELHI RWAS JOINT FRONT CAN DO.
Perhaps for this we have to meet and discuss.
I offer my place at any time or day for this activities.
It is high time we review our first meeting decisions.
