MCD (Unauthorized Construction) Building Files Go Missing

The latest episode in the saga of MCD's inaction in case of unauthorized construction is of missing files.

Records of buildings regularized by a tainted junior engineer in Shahdara (south) zone are not available with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, according to senior MCD officials. The officials claimed that as many as 50 buildings were regularized by this official, some of them after termination orders were issued against him.

``The records of buildings regularized by former junior engineer (building), Shahdara (south) zone, Manoj Shah, and other officials from June to October are missing. The zonal office is trying to locate the records now. Since people paid a deposit for regularization, it should not be difficult to track down properties which were regularized during this period,'' said standing committee chairman, Yogender Chandolia.

Manoj Shah had been hired on contractual basis by MCD. ``Several complaints were received against Manoj Shah on the basis of which he was disengaged from his contractual services,'' added Chandolia. Even as the process of terminating him from duty began in August, he continued to work till September and regularized several buildings during this period also, according to sources.

When MCD was questioned about these allegations, MCD commissioner K S Mehra said that the civic agency was ``investigating the matter.'' All these matters came to light after the house collapse in Lalita Park several weeks ago. This incident claimed at least 70 lives. The civic agency is yet to submit its inquiry report on the collapse and has not initiated any action against officials in relation to the collapse. It has, however, started demolishing and sealing illegal properties all over Delhi.

‘‘The areas where buildings were regularized during this period include Preet Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Yojna Vihar, Krishna Nagar, P D Vihar, etc. We will now have to check if all rules and regulations were followed when these buildings were regularized by these officials,’’ said an official.

93 mn Slum Dwellers Likely By 2011: Govt

Despite the country's robust economic growth, the number of people living in slums is likely to cross 93 million by 2011, marking an increase of around 23 per cent since 2001.

A committee set up by Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has projected this figure, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

The main reasons for increase in slum population are influx of a large number of workers to cities without commensurate job opportunities and non-availability of housing and basic amenities, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Selja said in a written reply.

She cited high cost of living, housing, transport and education and inadequate provision of land for housing as some other reasons for increase in slum population.

Selja said her ministry has begun the process for formulation of a new scheme for providing support to states that are willing to provide property rights to slum dwellers.

Trade Fair Venue may go to Gurgaon ?

Now it's the turn of Trade Fair Venue - The Pride of Delhi - The Pragati Maidan. It may shift to Gurgaon by 2014. Earlier the famous Appu Ghar was closed & shifted from Delhi.  Earlier prestigious Industrial Exhibitions such as IMTEX  clubbed with AUTO EXPO was permanently shifted out of Delhi. Even earlier thousands of Industries were sealed & forced to Shift out of Delhi.

Do you think that this is the only way to DE-CONGEST Delhi ?

Don't you think that all these are causing massive revenue losses to Delhi state ?

Don't you think that soon we will loose the charm of being Delhiites as every prestigious thing that belongs to Delhi,  will soon be found out of Delhi ?

Dear Mr. Vohra ji,

It is a pity that the MCD engineers permit construction of illegal floors by taking bribe and as and when they are identified by the same engineers or their colleagues when they get a 'danda' from the top, they start demolishing them! It is strange and debatable. Why not ask the builder to disclose how much money he has paid illegally to the MCD officials and disclose their names and they should be removed from service instantaneously and go into the matter later! This will only will have salutary effect. It is shocking that even in our democracy we always require a 'danda' from the top to act upon. What difference it makes when we were under alien rule and now in our own Raj!

In this context we have brought to notice the 'builders menace' taking place in Anand Vihar to the DC and other officials in all our communications and taken up the matter with the FIEIIGHS (Federation) as well but no response at all. But one fine morning any mishap happens, the authorities will wake up and demonstrate their action for some time and then go in slumber. Is there no rule of law or ethics for all this. All this happens only because of 'corruption to the core' right from the bottom level which has to be arrested by all means in Govt.'s command. NOW AT LEAST ARISE, AWAKE AND STOP NOT TILL ALL THE ILLEGAL BUILDINGS ARE ERACED TO THE GROUND; BUILDERS AND OFFICIALS CONCERNED PUT BEHIND BARS, PENDING ENQUIRIES, AND PUBLISH THEIR PHOTOS ETC TO LET THE PUBLIC KNOW! CAN WE DO IT?

Dear Mr. Vohra ji,

Let's ponder over it. How to overcome the situation. There are many more such things which are happening and we read them in newspapers/tv channels and shed 'artificial' or natural tears and feel helpless. Can't we collide our mind and come to a conclusion which we may focus to Govt. But one thing all these raise because we wish to make money quickly - people don't fear or feel 'guilt' which lead to 'greed'! One thing is certain that such things will not happen in our mahan bharat unless and until there is always a person or a group of persons to protect/shield you (the culprits). There is no 'fear' and there is no 'punishment'. People could overcome both with nefarious means and hence they become greedy and resort to all unlawful activities. What 'morality' cannot purchase 'money' can purchase.  We have come to this stage! Let's not look to God to save us but we have to look ourselves to save us. Otherwise, posterity will suffer and may resort to revolt. Should we proceed to this stage? FOOD FOR THOUGHT AND ACTION!

Your Chances Of Getting An Ambulance: 50%

Delhi government may have managed to save its ace by buying 31 ambulances before the Commonwealth Games 2010, but two-thirds of the fleet are still lying parked -and unused -on the lawns of Maulana Azad Medical College for the last two months.

Soon after the Games, 10 ambulances were handed over to the Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS), which provides ambulance service on call. But the rest of the ambuances, including 10 with basic life support and 11 with advanced life support facilities, are lying idle.

"This is criminal waste of pubic money, especially when CATS s unable to provide ambulances most of the time," said a doctor from a government hospital, wishing to remain anonymous.

Illegal Floors In 1500 Buildings At Lalita Park, After Survey, MCD Is All Set To Take Action Soon

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suddenly woken up to the problem of illegal construction in the city after the house collapse in Lalita Park around two weeks ago. The civic agency has identified around 1,500 buildings which have constructed illegal floors in the area and will soon initiate action against them.

Under the Master Plan-2021, the restriction for vertical growth in the city is 15 meter in most parts of the city. MCD stated that number of such buildings are likely to double in the coming weeks as the survey to identify such illegal construction is still ongoing in Laxmi Nagar and surrounding areas.

``We had initiated a survey to identify illegally built floors and rooms which had been constructed in violation of the Master Plan-2021 norms. Around 1,500 buildings have been identified so far and we will initiate action against them very soon. Since the survey is ongoing, the number of such buildings are likely to increase further in the coming days,'' said standing committee chairman, Yogender Chandolia.

He further stated that demolition would have to be initiated in all these cases. ``We cannot provide any sort of relief to people who have carried out such construction as it is in direct violation of the MPD-2021,'' added Chandolia.

Call 100 To Get A Drop Home

In a decision that would be welcomed by all, the Delhi Police have decided to drop any woman home if she is stranded on the road. All she has to do is call '100' for help. These and other decisions were taken on Friday by the Delhi Police to ensure safety of women in the Capital, two days after a 30-year-old BPO employee was abducted and raped by five men while she was returning home from work.

"If any woman is stranded, she is advised to call the PCR helpline. The van will drop her to her house," said Rajan Bhagat, Delhi Police spokesperson.

The police added that Station House Officers of localities where girls from the northeastern part of the country live in large numbers have also been directed to meet them and sensitise them about security on a regular basis.

"The police have also intensified patrolling and checking vulnerable roads at night," Bhagat said.

A senior police official said Special Commissioner (Crime) Ranjit Narayan will write to BPOs asking them to take necessary measures to ensure safety of their employees.
