Jor Bagh, Golf Links RWAs get sole rights to NDMC centres

Two of the most upscale societies in the Capital have been able to reserve their rights for exclusive use of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) community centres.

Resident Welfare Associations of Jor Bagh and Golf Links (RWAs) have secured the rights for the NDMC community centres in its localities. Amit Prasad, director of NDMC’s Welfare department, said, “We have agreed to hand over the community centres to the respective RWAs as they have requested for exclusive rights.”
Officials said similar requests in the future would be decided only on merit basis.
“Reserving rights to community centres means people would not be able to book Golf Links and Jor Bagh centres for activities. We found their demands worthy of acceptance as they are gated communities and have agreed to pay money and share the electricity expenses,” said a Welfare department official.
These two community centres are permitted for the use of RWA members for all activities related to sports, social, cultural programmes and association get-togethers, which the RWA may decide from time to time, the official added.

Delhi DJB staff alleges scam, moves HC

Employees of the Delhi Jal Board on Wednesday moved the high court here for a probe into the role of senior DJB officials in awarding a contract at allegedly inflated rates to a firm, causing a huge loss of `170 crores to the state exchequer.

In a petition to the bench of Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw, the DJB workers’ union accused officials of giving the contract to multi-tasking engineering firm Larsen and Toubro at exorbitant cost of `271 crores.

The contract was for installing a software, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, to monitor various aspects of water production at the Bhagirathi Water Treatment plant (WTP), said the petition.

The bench has posted the matter for hearing on February 8.

According to the workers, following the recommendation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the tender was issued to the company in May, 2011, and subsequently a Letter of Intent (LOI) was issued on November 28 at an inflated cost of `271 crores.

The petition said Bhagirathi WTP, located in Gokulpuri area, has been supplying 110 MGD water against its capacity of 100 MGD and there is no requirement for installation of any software to monitor its production.

Despite repeated representations to the board against the decision, no heed was paid to them and the tender was issued at an enhanced rate, the petitioners alleged.
