Anti-Corruption Helpline Of CVC Flooded With Calls
An anti-corruption helpline set up by the Central Vigilance Commission ten days back is getting an overwhelming response from aggrieved callers in the national capital.
"There has been a tremendous response from the people. Our lines are flooded with calls throughout the day. The helpline is getting about 250-300 calls on an average everyday," a CVC official said.
Aggrieved persons can call on the toll free number 1800-11-0180 and on 011-24651000 exclusively set up by the anti-corruption watchdog to resolve their problems related to unnecessary lingering of work in any department due to demand for "undue favours" or "gratification" by public servants.
The helpline was started on October 25 and is operational from Monday to Friday between 10 am and 7 pm, the officer added. "It's hardly been ten days since we started this service and the response is quite encouraging," he said. Giving details of the innovative approach, the official said, "anyone can call the helpline number and complain about the harassment or injustice being faced by him or her. He can directly be connected to the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of the concerned department.
"The CVO would take all the details from the caller and check whether his problem is genuine or not. Accordingly, necessary action will be taken," he said.
The primary aim behind setting up such a call centre is to help people in getting their work done without unnecessary hassles besides checking corruption, the official said. "People can file complaints related to bribery and other problems being faced by them in all the Central Government-run ministries, other departments like MCD, NDMC and DDA and public sector units, among others," he said.

VERY HAPPY, JOYOUS AND PROSPEROUS DIWALI !
Dear Mr. Vohra ji,
With the water tariff stands increased astronomically with retrospective effect i.e. from 1st January, 2010, increase in 'electricity tariff' is bound to happen, sooner or later! We are already facing all round increase in prices of pulses, edible oils, vegetables etc. where we will end is not known to anybody nor can be predicted except our Almighty! We had not resisted the 'increase in water tariff' and meekly accepted the increase, why not we accept the new electric tariff which should follow suit! Delhiitest will face all problems and all round increase of everything as an outcome of the Commonwealth Games, of which we are proud of!
I take this opportunity to wish you, your family and our East Front members and their families a VERY HAPPY, JOYOUS AND PROSPEROUS DIWALI!

Residents' fight for a free slip road
For the past eight years, the residents of Hari Nagar Ashram, Friends Colony and neighbouring areas have been forced to drive at least 2-3 kilometres extra to reach the main road and vice-versa. Reason: An individual has closed a stretch of about 100-metre long service lane with gates on its either sides. Residents claim the lane has been “illegally and forcibly closed” by an individual and it is actually part of public land.
Public Works Department (PWD) officials claim the slip road or the service lane falls in its jurisdiction.
The agency has been doggedly supporting the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA), which has been fighting the case in the high court for almost four years now.
"We have done the demarcation of the land that has been encroached upon. According to the revenue records, the lane belongs to us. We would have removed the encroachment had the individual not moved court and obtained a stay order," said a senior PWD official requesting anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

HC issues contempt notice to L-G and DDA
NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court has issued a contempt notice against the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on a petition highlighting disobedience of an earlier HC order. Justice G S Sistani asked the L-G, along with DDA vice-chairman and a DDA commissioner, to explain why they shouldn't be hauled up for contempt of court and fixed the matter for January.
The notice came after petitioners 'Jangpura Residents Welfare Society' through advocate R K Saini pointed out the failure of these authorities to remove an illegal structure styled as a mosque and a 'Balmiki Mandir' in the locality. The RWA drew HC's attention to the fact that even after DDA's inhouse 'religious committee' granted the green signal for removal of the structures, no action has been taken on the ground.
In 2006, the RWA had approached HC protesting the failure of municipal authorities to remove encroachments and illegal structures stunting the planned development of the colony as per the layout plan that included a green patch. The petitioners argued that this inability had robbed them of an opportunity to have a community centre and a park in their locality.

New Power Tariff Not Coming Soon
With still no sign of any agreement over the issue of power tariff, officials said the DERC may not announce new tariff plan this year. Sources in DERC said the process of inviting applications from discoms for tariff in 2011-12 has already been started and discoms will be submitting their average revenue requirement petitions soon.
The present year's proposed tariff plan has not found favours with the government and discoms. In fact, after the DERC made plans to announce the new tariff, the government in May stayed the order. ''It's a dead issue now and all eyes are on the next year's tariff,'' said an official.
It was earlier hinted that the delayed tariff could be announced by the end of the Commonwealth Games, but with the retirement of then chairman DERC who had mooted the lower tariff, even that is not likely to happen. Sources added that a increase in tariff is likely next year as discoms have crying about a cash flow crisis for months and even gave a presentation to the government highlighting the same.
