There is simply not enough water in Delhi, to support any more growth.....
Hitting out at the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for "sanctioning mass building and construction across the city without factoring in the water availability" DJB chief Ramesh Negi said: "In wake of the city's water woes and a total hydrological imbalance, there has to be an end to the vertical growth. The DDA should ban further growth. Unless this is done, the city can never have an equitable water supply." There is "simply not enough water in Delhi", to support any more growth, he told Newsline.

If there is not enough water in Delhi to support any more growth and it's being said by none other than DJB Chief Mr Ramesh Negi, than how the builders lobby is on it's peak in almost every part of the city ? Why the water harvesting is not being enforced, even though, normal to heavy rains are being expected this season ? Why the water is being wasted from various leakages in DJB pipes ? Who is responsible for this mismanagement ? Your most valued comments please.

Finding it difficult to cope with the demands of vertical growth of the city, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has decided not to give water connections to each dwelling unit in a multi-storeyed apartment block. Instead, the DJB will now provide only one connection to a block of flats which has more than four floors.

Demand Rises, City Powerless, Delhi Consumes 4400MW, Discoms Blame Cuts On Overdrawal
Earlier this year, the state government promised Delhiites that this summer would be different as far as power situation is concerned. But as the mercury touched a new high on Monday, the promise of uninterrupted power supply was proving to be a hollow one.
On Monday power demand in the city reached nearly 4400MW, just shy of last year's highest demand of 4408MW that was reported in June. This led to long outages in most parts of the capital.
In east Delhi, residents of Mayur Vihar faced power cuts lasting up to five hours on Tuesday. ``The power went off around noon and came for just a half hour in the evening. We faced a harrowing time in scorching heat without any power. We didn't even get water supply in the evening,'' said Mrinalini Saini, a resident of Mayur Vihar Phase II. In the afternoon, parts of Patparganj, Preet Vihar and adjoining areas faced outages for over an hour.
Situation in south Delhi was equally bad, if not worse. In Lajpat Nagar, many residents faced sleepless night due to outages. ``First there was a two-hour power cut in the night. In the morning, we faced hour-long outage,'' saidManjit Singh.
Defence Colony residents complained of erratic power supply throughout the day. In CR Park, residents faced two to three-hour long power cuts till late evening. Romila Suri, a resident of R-block in New Rajinder Nagar said the situation was just worsening. ``On Monday, we had no electricity for almost four hours and then it went off at night again. Again on Tuesday when it is so hot, there was no supply in the afternoon,'' she said.

NGOs Find 2 Of 53 Samples Potable, Rest Contain Heavy Metals & Pesticides
An analysis of Delhi's water, carried out by the NGOs Hazards Centre and Water Aid, has thrown up startling results. Of the 53 samples that were tested, only two were found to be potable. The rest were contaminated in varying degrees with heavy metals, faecal coliform, flouride and even pesticides.
The study, carried out over last year, was made public on Tuesday. Dr Ishaprasad Bhagwat, director, programme operations of Water Aid, told TOI that while the results of the study were quite alarming, this was just an initial report that needed more followup action. ``The study is indicative of the extent of the problem the city is facing. A lot more work needs to be done. We will submit the study to DJB shortly,'' he said.

Pay More To Buy House In Delhi, The New Registration Fee Can Go Up to Rs 50,000
Brace yourself to shell out more for purchasing property in the Capital.On Monday, the Sheila Dikshit government raised the registration fees that property buyers need to pay to have their purchase documents authenticated.
Currently, buyers have to pay a flat Rs 100 as registration fees to buy property of any size. Now, this rate will go up to Rs 50,000. Property buyers are expected to add Rs 100 crore to the state exchequer after the hike, revenue officials said.
With this move, the Delhi government has resorted once again to increasing taxes. Last month public outrage had forced the government to partially roll back huge tax hikes announced in the annual state budget.
Dikshit cited a crippling funds crunch when she imposed massive tax hikes in the budget that finance officials had hoped would add Rs 1,130 crore to the kitty.
However, taxes on key commodities such as tea, coffee, domestic gas cylinders and CNG were later withdrawn partially or in full. This set back the government's tax mop up target by an estimated Rs 200 crore.

By logging on to Twitter, you can get to know about the condition of Delhi traffic, which roads you should take and which to avoid, to reach your destination.
By logging on to Facebook, you can share your views on the traffic management initiatives. The rising Internet penetration among Delhiite's has prompted Delhi Traffic police to go the social-networking way.And the innovative idea seems to have clicked. "People have started communicating with the traffic police through Facebook and Twitter in bulk," said a senior traffic police officer.
"Through Facebook, we provide information about new plans, initiatives and challenges, and also make the users aware about the traffic situation in the city. Besides, we seek sugges- tions, reactions and views from responsible citizens of Delhi," said Satyendra Garg, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
"Through Twitter, we update them about events, processions, rallies, road congestion, accidents etc. The management of traffic in Delhi during the forthcoming Commonwealth Games is a big challenge as well as a great opportunity," he said further.

CRIME AND THE COMMON MAN
The crimes like loot, rape and murder look to be new and always following ascending curves.
But look at the way we have been over the last three thousand years or even more. CHAKRAVARTEE(pardon my spellings) MEANS a raja who could subdue his neighbours and remain unchallenged.
We had great admiration for such rules. The rajas were challenged to fight or accept the might of a would be charvartee. Then came a period that what ever you grab in battle becomes yours, be it wealth or women. The viceroys in british days faced challenge of THUGS and dacoits.
Even in 1940..to 1950, villagers who were traders were suspectible to dacoity and this was the major reason for them to shift from villages to towns and then to cities.
Now we see delhi becoming unsafe for eleders and women.
Common Wealth Games are fast approaching.. TO COVER major roads even near games village by CCTV is a dream only. Police is apathetic to public participation. There is an element of distrust and an attitude of helpless ness on the part of common man.
We need to correct this image before we lose face in the presence of visitors from all corners of the world.

Documentation fees raised on purchase of property in Delhi
Delhi government has now raised the Documentation fees on the purchase of Property in Delhi. The new rate is 1%. i.e. if you want to buy a property of Rs. 50 Lakhs in Delhi, you will have to pay the 1% Documentation fees i.e. Rs. 50,000. Details awaited.
