Rwas and elected councillors or others

Frustated the social worker feels that besides repeated reminders or letters nothing gets done. Sir, I want to share my thoughts on this subject. A labour union worker in 1993, confronted me with a similar problem. You as a chief engineer desu are not solving our problems. While explaining about my busy schedule, I suddenly remembered my failures as PRESIDENT of east of kailash RWA. Then a solution flashed across my mind. We started a monthly meeting with our area councillor CH?NARAIN SINGH and MLC SH?VP SINGH . They would come with officers of MCD and review what transpired in last meeting.

Similar experiment we are now trying in our MADHUVAN. Sh.vohra ji kindly attended meeting wherein our MADHUVAN RWA PRESIDENT AND HONY SECRETARY besides me were present. The problems of madhuvan were brought to the notice of our area councillor SH?RAVI PRAKASH SHARMA who was chairman shahadara south zone. We propose to hold such meetings every month. Similar meetings could be considered by our joint front to take up common problems of constituents. It will be also necessary to share our progress on items discussed in first MC meeting at my place.

Half of Commonwealth Games volunteers disappear with kit

NEW DELHI: The spirit of the Games doesn't seem to be prevailing. Seen to be an essential ingredient of the Games, volunteers have gone missing. An estimated 10,000 volunteers have dropped out after enrolling for the mega sports show.

The volunteers have displayed less than expected zest for the Games due to what is seen as a combination of reasons ranging from random allocation of responsibilities, relatively unglamorous assignments and poor training and motivation.

A part of the problem also seems to have been the terms offered to volunteers. Instead of payments, the experience of participating in the Games with a certificate at the end of the event are the main rewards. However, there is also a smart set of clothes - the kit costs Rs 12,000 - besides meals while at work.

While these terms are the norm at most such events, the thrill and experience of the job and an opportunity to watch top athletes being the big hook, the attrition rate of volunteers has been rather high. Beset with controversies, the Games have perhaps not proved too attractive for many who signed up.

Sources said the missing volunteers have gone away with their uniforms that might have been what they found to be of interest. Perhaps, they should have been paid a daily allowance at least. Some of the work is quite tough and requires good communication skills, said an official who confirmed mass desertions.

The situation has led to private parties having to step up their participation. "We are doing all that has been asked of us," said Abhijit Sarkar, spokesperson of Sahara group. Many of the volunteers at the airport and Village are from the group.

CWG

Dear friends,
I totally endorse the views of the Mrs. Ranju Minhas. Forget the past and let's concentrate the present and do a wonderful job with more glory and medals than the past ever. Everyone has to contribute for this including those who are sitting at home and watching TV They could encourage our sportspersons through the media which will boost up their morale to do their best for the 'glory and honour of our country'!

Dear Friends,

I fully agree with Ms./Mr. Ranju Minhas. It's our own media like Star News,NDTV,Aaj Tak,Zee News etc., etc., so called the watch dogs of the country have blown up the issue like mad people. Actually it seems they were getting no worth while news hence, they have caught on to one subject i.e., CWG. Day after day they would catch hold of one or other news concerning CWG and keep on repeating it every half an hour and glorify the short comings happening in CWG instead of focusing on more important issues taking place in the country. They should watch BBC, CNN, ABC. NBC and learn from them how to report news of the country & the world. Just a couple of days ago I was watching an interview of Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyer by so called one of the important TV journalist of this country Mr. Deepak Chaurasia of Star News and he was just trying to put some words or sentences in the mouth of Mr. Aiyer so that he makes a commitment or puts a blame on one of the members of CWGF but instead Mr. Aiyer just blew him apart. I don't understand what all these jounalists think about themselves. I have noticed that except one journalist i.e., Mr. Prannoy Roy of NDTV no other journalist barring few is capable of doing any reporting. Now wait and watch, the Babri Masjid judgement is expected to take place tommorow, so since tomorrow early morning all news channels will focus towards it through it.

1,00,000 Crores & 30 years for Delhite's to bear : CWG

An NGO has informed that Common Wealth Games spendings will touch almost Rs.1,00,000 crores  & the Delhite's will have to bear the cost for over 25 to 30 years by way of Taxes etc. Indeed what a show.  Can't understand that a country which has over 50% of its population below the poverty line & majority of them earning in just three figures per month, spendings of almost One Lakh Crores on the name of CWG is justified ?

CWG

Dear Friends,

Its not only the foreign media, our own media was no better.Wish they could give a balanced report on the preprations.Lot of good work has also been done our airport has emerged as one of the best in the world,Heathrow airport comes nowhere near it,this is the first hand report of people who have travelled recently to so called developed countries Media all over the world was just focussing on the lapses,as for corruption that is our internal matter.Looks like these countries just cannot digest developing countries progressing by leaps and bounds our IT industry is already giving them sleepless nights.

Its a lesson to our govt as the agencies failed to put up a coordinated front, wish they could give finishing touches earlier and avoided all the controversies .Like Milkha Singh pointed out that as a player he has seen worst conditions abroad ,so friends let us move on and give some credit for the good work done for CWG games ,the explanations by Kalmadi and co can be dealt with later once the games are over.

Also Queens baton should be called Commonwealth baton.

CWG

Dear Mr. Vohra ji,

There are, according to me having been associated with the organization of 'mega events' like Asiad-82; World Railway Games, World Badminton, World Table Tennis, Asian Athletics etc. held in India, most of them in Delhi, a few unanswered questions. They are -

1. How did you allow the media to enter the Village without proper permission when they are not ready? Who is the responsible official who took them around? Pin him down. Was he bribed a few chips to take snaps of these minor/isolated places!

2. How our own media tarnished the image of our own country - like CNN-IBN; Times Now, Headlines Today, NDTV etc. in their dispatches little realising the implications and impact? Are they not patriotic and anti-nationals. Freedom of media does not mean unfettere freedom. What the I&B Ministry did to gag them up?  Why they did not show the magnicient work done in stadia, training grounds etc. which were all prepared to this august event? It is a pity that none of the media projected the 'positive things' done at huge cost! Should they not be punished?

3. What the officials at the helm of affairs organizing the CWG were doing without looking into the records relating to the organization of Asiad-82 under the Chairpersonship Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi ably assisted by S. Buta Singh and Shri Arun Singh, ex- Works & Housing and Defence Ministers at the Centre! It is unfortunate that none of the Asiad-82 officials have even remotely associated with Asiad82 find a berth in the Organization of the CWG. I could speak with authority that I was perhaps the first one to apply to the Organizing Committee with my bio-data to extend my service as a full time official in any capacity/area of work, having acquired rich experience right from scratch when the basic work of the Asiad-82 was started. You will be shocking to know till date I have not received a call! I have also volunteered to assist the CWG organizing committee and undergone training for the purpose at the Amity University and got the ID card and uniform etc. due to my passion for organization of the Games, but here too, I have not received a call so far, when hardly a week left. I have reminded them too. Added I have worked with Shri Kalmadi when he was the Hon'ble Railway Minister, as his only railway knowledgeable OSD but still I had not been called.  In 18 months we did erect the stadia, made all requisite arrangements for stay, food, transport, conduct of the Games etc. at the then 'world class level' earning the kudos of all nations in the Asian continent besides the IOC who conferred the "Order of Gold", the highest honour of the IOC on our then Hon'ble P.M.,Smt. Indira Gandhi for the magicient success of the Asian Games-82! Of course, I got the President of India's award "Asiad Jyoti" for the same.

Of course, when so many top notches are not coming we will fetch 'record number of medals' of which we could take pride in a way, but at what cost - Rs.70,000 crores with which we could run sports promotion in the entire country right from village to State Hqs. levels for the next 15-20 years and prove ourselves better than China in shaping 'world beaters' over this period of time.

Of course, we are all short of memory and we will all forget what had happened and not happened for conducting the CWG and come back to square one with the same sort of officials at the helm of affairs to run sports in our country. It is high time that all such officials in the IOA and NSF should resign en masse having brought a 'bad name' to our prestigious country!

I am sorry that whenver anybody talks ill about our country my blood boils and heart beat increases due to these tardy and despicable affairs created by these so called 'sports administrators'

Untouchable Dog !

Dog cast(e)away after dalit touch. Whom to blame?

BHOPAL: A dog's life couldn't get worse. A mongrel brought up in an upper caste home in Morena was kicked out after the Rajput family members discovered that their Sheru had eaten a roti from a dalit woman and was now an "untouchable". Next, Sheru was tied to a pole in the village's dalit locality. This controversial case is now pending with the district collector, the state police and the Scheduled Caste Atrocities police station in Morena district of north MP.

DSP SC/ST Atrocities (Morena), Baldev Singh, recalls, "We got a complaint in which it has been alleged that a dog was declared untouchable and a dalit family fined for feeding it. We are investigating the allegation," said the officer.

Road number 57 caved in

Road number 57 in East Delhi caved in at Mandir marg, Krishna nagar chowk. A round pit of over 10 ft emerged in the morning. Persons from DJB as well PWD reached the spot & it was observed by them that the leakage was in a 4 ft DJB pipe line which was under the Electric poles. As its a long job & as there was a huge traffic jam on the road, the cavity has been filled by earth for the time being till further action is decided.

BBC pics of the CWG village ?

The BBC pics of the CWG Village clearly exhibit that only / mostly the Cleaning & Finishing of the Area was pending. My questions are :

Why BBC esclated the issue on its Channel, website & through other media ? Why BBC tried to malign the prestige of our country by showing only those pics which depicted an error ?

There are thousands & thousands of pic's exhibiting the beauty of CWG. Why these pic's could not find any place in the BBC pics gallery ?

Don't you think that BBC tried to treat India as a third world country ? And that too, when the North India is facing the severe of the severest rains & floods.

Just one pic showed that really some work was pending. Don't you think, it clearly meant that even BBC could not find more than that ?

My other questions are :

How an Australian Channel could do a sting operation by carrying lots n lots of explosives into the CWG ? Why they are not charged with the consipiracy against India ?

Why & How Mr Fanel changes his statement every second day ? Who is pressurising him to speak against India ?

Leaking stadiums, choked roads, emerging ditches, delayed projects, falling overbridges, corruption or no corruption, these are our internal issues and can be discussed & debated in depth after the games. But we can not allow any other country to touch our nose.

Please reply.

CWG

It is true that now is the time to save our country from all the shame, but we all must get together and punish the culprits who have put our country in to such an awkward situation. On TV i see most of the channels getting in to DEBATES with renowned people, on what went wrong and why?this will continue for some time and then the whole misdeed forgotten the culprits will live happily everafter, This is the time for one and all to get together and ask for the misuse of taxpayers money, and the only punishment which I feel right is to make all the OC members stand in J.N.STADIUM and hang them publicly like in RAVAN DAHAN on Dussehra

Alka Gupta

CWG volunteers ?

Dear Mr. Vohra ji,

It is a pity that there has been all over 'criticisms' on the organization of the Commonwealth Games without pondering over what citizens of Delhi and others can do! We must know that in every sphere of activity, whether collection of property tax/income-tax or payment of bills etc. the citizens of Delhi have to undergo numerous problems and we are also part of it. Govt. servants do not work but they demand only pay and perks. Unless and until the 'fear' of punishment is there ingrained in the minds of people, things will not improve however much you preach and give training etc.

You know what a collossal amount had been sent on 'training' of volunteers and officials abroad during the last four years. Let's get it and you will know what all these officials had done abroad and what they are doing now and how much money had been spent on them.

We must also know that India - our mahan Bharat - are 'masters of crisis management'. First we are loath right from the beginning, instead of doing things on a planned and phased manner and thereby create a 'crisis' in which situation many agencies and people get profitted and manage them at a short notice. I have been pleading with people if there is one gold or diamond medal at the international forum in any sphere of activity for 'crisis management' there is none in the world to beat INDIA. We are masters in 'crisis management' and nobody can match our efficiency and proficiency in this respect. It is a challenge any one can take it!

Perhaps you may be aware that one agency "City Operations' trained more than 2400 volunteers to assist the Organizing Committee in organizing the Games. They were addressed by none else than by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Shri Suresh Kalmadi, that they "will be playing a vital role as City Operations at the Games Headquarters"! But alas despite taking a number of training sessions organized by the Amity University at Noida, issuing ID cards and uniforms, no intimation whatsoever have so far been received by these volunteers, of which I am one of them (despite being an Asiad Jyoti awardee), despite a number of phone calls and e-mails. No reply has been received so far. Whereas on contrast, it is a pity that we are getting a large number of foreign volunteers to assist us and now the members of the foreign teams who are coming are volunteering to assist the OC of the CWG little knowing our background, culture, ground position and knowledge about our beautiful city etc. This is the state of affairs. We have not picked up the 'right talent' right people who are 'passionate and committed about games' and take pride in working for the Organizers but 'chammas and who blow the trumphet of the higher officials at the CWG OC' are playing a vital role. It is unfortunate that none who have had experience and expertise in 'sports administration' has been associated with the OC!

We are "Delhi United" to help the OC of the CWG but are the latter 'UNITED' to avail of our services! It is a pity that these decorated people who did yeoman services during Asiad-82 have not been even called to attend the GAMES AND HONOUR THEM!

This must be the spirit , if you want to promote sports !

Poland has the EURO 2012  i.e. European Football Championship in 2012 and yesterday, it has  inaugurated the Poznan stadium even before the CWG 2010 in Delhi. Don't you think, that this must be the spirit for promotion of sports. The evening concluded with fireworks.

Come, Let’s be a part of the solution rather than being a part of the criticism !

While there has been a lot of criticism surrounding the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 over the past few months, it is now high time to transform criticism into concrete constructive actions. After all, it is a matter of national pride to hold the Games in our city, in our country. The need of the time is call is to come together as a city and as a nation for the Commonwealth Games.

NDTV-BPTP launched "Be the Solution" campaign to spur positivity instead of the criticism. This campaign is being carried out in association with the CWG Organizing Committee (OC) and the Government of Delhi.

On behalf of this, they need students from different colleges/schools /people to green select stadiums and other key areas in Delhi between 16th Sep to 23rd Sep. The activities for the volunteers will involve painting, greening, laying grass and saplings in around the chosen stadiums : Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium ,Delhi University Rugby Stadium,Thyagaraj stadium,Talkatora Stadium and other few chosen locations in the city. The equipments and grass/saplings will be provided. Bollywood celebrities and popular faces from the world of arts and theatre in Delhi would also show their solidarity in a bid to make their city clean and green. They will also provide refreshments to the volunteers along with pick & drop facility.
Time Slots :- 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm or 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

CWG

Dear friends,

We citizens have been living and tolerating inefficiency, corruption ,lack of planning and incompetence since long.It is just that it has got exposed now and is there for the world to see.We are not only being tested by people but also by mother nature. We all know, merit has always been compromised in handing out jobs as quota system takes over.I dont know why we are getting shocked over faliure of this magnitude,as it was bound to happen.MCD ,DDA,PWD and other authorities were involved in CWG projects, its a collective faliure of our governance.

Look around you ,in your neighbourhood it is not difficult to spot corrupt and antisocial people, they are part of our society .We do not raise our voices against them but choose to be silent spectators. At this stage we can just pray that athletes do not pull out and any further untoward incident does not take place.Only a miracle can save our nation from getting shamed internationally.

Bridge collapse at this moment of time ?

Really shocking & unbelievable.

Bridge collapse in the Capital city &  in a prominent stadium & that too, just 11 days before the  start of the  CWG with atleast 26 injured. Really SHOCKING & UNBELIEVABLE.

When all the foreign countries are shouting on one pretext or other and trying to cancel the CWG, it is the worst news. The countries alreading exhibiting doubts over security, comfort, cleanliness  of the CWG premises have got another point to raise objection.

The prestige of the country is at stake. A day before, news of shots fired near Jama Masjid has already dented the security. Now this collapse has further damaged the goodwill of the country.

May we request to the Delhi Government & the prominent opposition partys to unite at this juncture of most crucial time when Delhi is on the verge of  severe floods & a judgement on 24th september while CWG  knocking the doors.

Foot over bridge collapses near JLN STADIUM

Just now I am viewing bridge to parking and nehru stadium Collapse on 24 *7 NDTV. Four persons have been injured. This is really a bad news and compell us to hang our head in shame. Immediately, the top supervisory staff must be placed under suspension, the contractor black listed besides conducting proper open enquiry. The scene on TV looks grim and there is structural failure. As an engineer, I am perturbed that how a project of such importance could be executed with such callous attitude.

Some facts on real CWG expenses.

The Bid in 2003 was made of Rs. 1,899 Crores. But the links of expenses are as below :

The link below shows the expense at Rs. 7907 Crores.
( By Mr Gill, No date mentioned )

The link below shows the expenses at Rs. 10,000 Crores.
( By Mr V K Verma, Director general, CWG, 24th March, 2010 )

The link below shows the expenses at Rs. 11,490 Crores
( By Govt. in Rajya Sabha, 29th July, 2010 )
http://ibnlive.in.com/news/cwg-expenses-stand-at-rs-11490-cr-govt/127785-5-23.html

Rs. 28,000 Crores Games expense sounds like wrong priority : Premji
( i.e. 11,494 crores on CWG & Rs. 16,560 crores on upgrading the Capitals infrastructure - a new airport terminal, wider roads, new flyovers, metro rail extensions etc., 26th August, 2010 )
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Rs-28000cr-Games-expense-sounds-like-wrong-priority-Premji/articleshow/6435358.cms

But whats about the rest of Rs. 30,000 crores as it is being said that expenses have touched Rs. 70,000 Crores Mark. Anyhow, Rs. 11,494 crores on CWG  is definitely on the higher side when compare to the Bid amount of Rs. 1899 crores in 2003. But Rs. 16,560 Crores on the Capitals infrastructure, including New Airport, Roads, Flyovers, Metro extensions, seems worth as Delhites have really got a better infrastructure. Your comments please.

Games and rwas

I understand from our hony.secretary mr.ac.agarwal, that CM has requested rwas to ensure cleanliness. About four year back, our councillor Ramesh pandit had ensured that safai karamchari are reporting to society or rwas. This has been stopped. How do we know four or one karam chari is for MADHUVAN.

Please ensure proper co ordination. Rest will automatically fall in line.

New live guides for tourists to Capital

Bracing up for the Commonwealth Games and eager to provide the large number of tourists expected with easy access to information, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday launched a new website of Delhi Tourism and a new 24-hour Delhi helpline number, (011)1280.

"A milestone"
Describing the twin launch as a milestone, Ms. Dikshit said it was a "proud day for Delhi'' as it had gone online and provided easy phone-based service to reach out to tourists. The new initiatives will make the city more accessible to the visitors, she said.

Delhi ranks as the Number One destination in foreign tourist arrivals in the country as it has a rich history and provides a varied mix of culture, food, greenery and world-class infrastructure. Being a top tourist destination, it was in need of a vital tourist guidance system and the website has sought to do just that.

Access to services
Through www.delhitourism.gov.in the visitors will be able to access a wide variety of services and information. Before setting out for Delhi, they would now be able to download thematic city maps, information brochures and informative videos - all of which would help them plan their trip better.

From giving out information on budget to luxury services, providing hotel bookings to reservations across an exhaustive list of hotels, bed and breakfast establishments and guest houses, the website would enable the tourists to make various transactions and bookings. It would also provide information on tour booking facilities, hop-on-hop-off bus services, airline time-tables, live flight information, currency converter and weather updates.

Commandos To Land At Schools In Case Of Games Emergency

Schools in Delhi will be closed during the Commonwealth Games, but they will still be an integral part of the Security  plan for the city during the period. Highly placed sources said the SWAT teams and commandos of the National Security Guard (NSG) and other agencies will be flown into the school grounds closest to the 13 venues in choppers in the eventuality of a terrorist attack or hostage situation.

"If there is a terrorist intrusion or any other hostage situation, the commandos will be airlifted to the grounds of government and private schools close to the venues. From there, the commandos will walk to the spot so that the terrorists do not see the helicopters," said an officer. He said the schools have been chosen for landing helicopters as they have big playgrounds and premises covered by buildings on all sides, providing the secrecy needed for such operations.

In fact, the Delhi Police has identified schools near the 13 Games venues and Games Village where helicopters can land and has recorded their coordinates. For example, Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, will be used in case of an operation near the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium where the opening and closing ceremonies will held, said the source.

"Similarly, there is a government school in Shakarpur near the Games Village and one at Kotla village near the Indira Gandhi International Stadium," the source added.

The Delhi Police has close to 60 SWAT commandos while the NSG and Border Security Force (BSF) are also expected to deploy similar numbers. Helicopters of the BSF, Indian Air Force and NSG would be on standby during the Games, added the source.

Sant nagar problems

Sant nagar is sandwiched between east of kailash and nehru place.
I stayed in east of kailash and lappet nagar1v for almost thirty years since 1960 since onward.
It is located on uneven rocky terrain and has very large number of problems.
This colony merits special attention.
Despite boost in property rates, much needs to be done.
Their president or secretary could come for personal discussion and then we could chalk out action plan.
Kindly contact or detail what has been done by way of follow up.
